Comal County Adopt-A-Roadway Program

The Adopt-A-Roadway program for Comal County encourages volunteers, groups, and businesses within the County to participate in a community activity to keep our roadsides litter free. Your participation will help reduce trash and litter along County roadways and maintain a clean and more attractive environment. The program allows volunteers to demonstrate community pride and help maintain a clean community.

Adopters of roadways volunteer to regularly schedule cleanings of their road, or groups can volunteer to clean a road once without adopting it. The entire adoption process can now be completed electronically, and only takes a few minutes to apply.

The County offers two options to participate in this program. They are as follows:

  • Option 1: Adopt-A-Roadway

    • By adopting a road, volunteers agree to maintain the road for a minimum period of two years
    • The adopter(s) will select a section from the available roadways
    • There is no cost associated with adopting a road
    • The adopter will collect and bag litter at least 2 times a year from the adopted section
    • When cleaning a road, both sides of the road within the adopted roadway section must be cleaned
  • Services provided by Comal County:

    • Install a sign at each end of the adopted section identifying the adopter(s)
    • Provide traffic control signs, safety vests, trash bags and safety information
    • Collect and remove filled trash bags from the adopted roadway section after the pickup
  • Option 2: Roadway Clean Sweep

    • Volunteers interested in a one-time cleaning of a roadway can participate in the Roadway Clean Sweep program
    • The volunteers will select a section of roadway to clean one time
    • There is no cost associated with this one time cleaning of a road
    • When cleaning a road, both sides of the road within the chosen roadway section must be cleaned
  • Services provided by Comal County:

    • A temporary recognition sign will be placed at each end of the Clean Sweep section identifying the volunteers
    • Provide traffic control signs, safety vests, trash bags and safety information
    • Collect and remove filled trash bags from the roadway section after the pickup
